Walmart adds UK sellers to its online shopping platform – US orders could arrive in two days

When you’re the biggest retailer in the world, it makes sense to bring the world more into your business. Walmart does just that by recruiting British companies to sell their products in the United States.

Walmart announced on June 13 that it had launched a “big push” to bring UK exporters to its Walmart Marketplace, which has more than 120 million US users per month. The move will give UK businesses another US e-commerce alternative to Amazon and eBay, Bloomberg reported.

To attract sellers, Walmart offers the services of a dedicated onboarding team, as well as access to other tools and services designed to help UK sellers scale quickly across the Atlantic. Sellers will be able to deliver their goods to customers in the contiguous United States within two days outside of peak season (February to August).

UK companies already in Walmart’s marketplace include wearable tech company Statsports, home and garden products seller BuyBox, sports equipment company Nodor and retailer Pertemba.

Walmart is no stranger to the UK, having built a long history there – including years as owner of Asda, the UK’s third-largest grocery chain Last year, Walmart sold most of its Asda holdings to a group led by the Issa brothers.

As Bloomberg noted, Walmart’s move this week to attract UK exporters is part of a UK government plan to help businesses reach 1 trillion pounds ($1.22 trillion ) of exports by 2030. Much of this focus will be on non-European Union markets such as the United States, Australia, Canada and Japan.

“We are confident that UK sellers will be able to leverage Britain’s reputation for design and manufacturing excellence and product quality to thrive as Marketplace sellers and offer more of choice to our U.S. customers with speed and scale,” said Darren Carithers, senior vice president of Marketplace development. for Walmart International, said in a press release.

Walmart will host a UK Seller Summit in London on Friday June 17. Summit partners will include commerce technology company Payoneer and commerce automation platform Linnworks.
