Klaus Zellmer added: “Surveys show that around two thirds of our customers also want to be able to buy our vehicles online. We are now fulfilling that wish. Our mission is to provide our customers with an excellent bidding and buying experience, both in dealerships and online. In this way, we will also sustainably strengthen our competitiveness.

Volkswagen Germany’s new offering enables a complete and seamless online experience – from configuring the vehicle, setting leasing options, to digital authentication and concluding a deal. All this can be done very comfortably from a PC, tablet or smartphone.

Dealerships will still be very tightly integrated into the online business model organizationally and financially and will also remain an important point of contact for customers for advice, test drives, through to delivery and service. Klaus Zellmer noted: “Online sales will not replace the physical dealership. We need a good online presence combined with a strong and powerful local presence provided by our dealers. Dealers are and will remain the face of our customers. They are indispensable when it comes to providing personalized and competent advice.

The new online leasing service for new vehicles will be gradually expanded to include cash purchase and financing options that can be concluded online. Online leasing is another element of the digital marketplace at, where German Volkswagen dealers offer new and used stock cars for purchase as soon as they become available from the end of 2021.
